A special medical camp was held in our Bethel Fellowship Center Lunawa Moratuwa on the 31st of March for 100 needy people. This clinic was held specially for the families living in the fishing community area who are in great need. A lady Doctor and Nurse conducted the clinic together with the UCF volunteers.
Medicines are very expensive and most people cannot afford to buy from pharmacies.
The UCF is glad that we were able to help these needy people with free medicine for various illnesses like fever, malaria, diabetes etc.
It was a great blessing to all those who made use of this opportunity. This project also helps us to communicate and build up a relationship with people in the community. Please pray that God will provide the needed resources for us to continue this much needed project.
A free medical camp and eye clinic was held on the 2nd of December at the UCF Bethel Fellowship Center in Moratuwa. The UCF has a special concern for the families living in the fishing community of Moratuwa as we have a ministry in this area for the past several years. These families are almost an isolated community living in temporary huts and many families do not have a permanent income and cannot afford to buy medicines. Some of these families are attending our church in Moratuwa. Some are drug addicts and alcoholics. They have no proper toilet facilities and also do not have electricity. We organized this medical camp for 100 people and eye clinic also for 100 people from this community in our church premises. Our Medical Team did a great service to these people.
UCF Medical Camp and Eye Clinic conducted in Polonnaruwa along with the US Mission Team.
UCF Conducted medical camps and eye clinics at Abepura village in Polonnaruwa and in Pussellawa alongside the US mission team led by Mrs. Jessica Tripp that were with the UCF in Sri Lanka from 22nd - 30th January 2017. The clinics proved to be an immense blessing to many needy people that received medical treatment, medicine and eye glasses free of charge at these clinics.
UCF conducted another eye clinic at Gallella village in Polonnaruwa district. Many elderly who were present at the eye clinic were suffering with various complications related to their eyes. There are no optometrists available nearby to this village to readily provide their services nor doctors available for medical assistance for miles.
As the Lord showed His compassion to the needy, UCF medical team was able to provide this service to over 150 needy patients in this village.
The eye clinic was conducted to assist the needy in Onegama village on the 19th of October 2016. More than 150 were provided with eye glasses after examinations by our optometrist, Dr. Weerakoon. He has rendered a great service, carefully examining each patient. All of these patients are unable to purchase the spectacles at a cost. The clinic was held at the community center of the village, and this is the first occasion the village has received such a community service.
Dandeniyawatta is an isolated village situated in the outskirts of Moratuwa with around 400 low income families most of them living in slums in this village with very poor living conditions.
UCF decided to have this medical clinic in Moratuwa and offer free medical services to the very poor families. In this context we discussed this matter with the Government Medical Officer of Health in Moratuwa (MOH) and the District Medical Officer (DMO) at the Lunawa Hospital. They were very reciprocal in this regard and offered their most unstinted and spontaneous cooperation by offering the services of doctors (1 dentist) and DMO himself was present at the medical camp attended to at least 60-70 patients by himself.
Further, the medical camp proved to be a great success and there were about 175 patients who received treatment and medicine. The people appreciated the services rendered by the UCF to them. Please pray the Lord to provide the needed resources toward this ongoing project of the UCF.
The UCF medical team visited Dharshanapura village in Medirigiriya at the request of Mr. Kins Nelson of Polonnaruwa who is a close friend of the UCF.
This village is situated in a very remote area at Medirigiriya. The people encounter various difficulties due to lack of transportation and they do not have a hospital or any medical institution to get treated on any emergency. Above all they are really poverty sticken. The medical team headed by Rev. Fernando had a very tedious journey travelling nearly 7 hours from Colombo. The villagers there are mostly farmers that obtained free medical tratement offered by the UCF. They apparently suffreed from diabteic, diarreah, arthritis and various other ailments where most of the children seem to be suffering from malnutrition. We were able to treat nearly 200 patients on this day. Those treated were very thankful to the UCF medical team and they appealed from us to visit them once more.
“For He will deliver the needy who cry out, the afflicted who have no one to help. He will take pity on the weak and the needy and save the needy from death” Psalms 72:12,13
UCF conducted a free mobile eye clinic at the Bakamuna village in Polonnaruwa district where nearly 200 needy people were treated and provided with optical glasses at no cost. This service including the free mobile medical camps conducted by the UCF have been a tremendous blessing to the people living at these scattered villages with little to no access to proper medical facilities, nevertheless, mostly being unable to afford them at a cost.
UCF conducted a 2-day medical clinic along with the medical mission team from the US in villages Elahera and Medirigiriya, respectively. The team was led by Rev. David Haley, who were with the UCF in Sri Lanka from 8 - 15 January 2016. The US mission team and the UCF local medical team engaged in conducting medical camps and provided medicine for about 400 needy patients at these clinics. During this process blood tests, pressure tests were also taken which provided very vital information to the needy patients. Eye glasses were also provided to about 600 needy people after being tested by an eye specialist.
