Income Generating Project: Sewing Project
Ashan is living in Chilaw who is a young boy of 27 years of age. He comes from a very poor background and studies Theology at the Lanka Bible School in Dehiwela. He and his brother makes school bags and sells in the market to earn an income for his studies and to help the family run. Therefore, in order to help this young boy, UCF will purchase 100 school bags from him to provide it to the needy children at the annual Children’s Christmas programme. This will encourage him and will enable him to make a reasonable income.
Jeewanthi is married and her husband is a pastor working at the UCF community church in Neboda.
Jeewanthi is talented in making garments and she sustain a little income for her family by doing this and also serving the community in the area by her work, specially the children as she makes children’s dresses’.
Please pray the Lord to bless as she and her husband work in the Neboda area. She need more material to purchase for sewing purpose in order to expand her work. Neboda is a scattered rubber plantation area and most of the community are laborers that do not earn a permanent income.
Kilinochchi is an area in the north of Sri Lanka where hundreds of families live in destitution without proper shelter or food. In Rev. Fernando’s travels to this area, he has developed a strong relationship with several men who were blinded during Sri Lanka’s civil war. Because they are blind, these men have found it difficult to provide meaningful income to support their families. UCF has provided some of these men with the needed support to help them start small income-generating businesses so that they can support their families going forward in the future. This is a tremendous blessing to these men and their families, and we thank God for his blessings.
One of UCF’s aims is to elevate the status-quo of Sri Lankan people. The Micro-Enterprise Project at UCF provides micro-financing to individuals seeking to establish their own private enterprises. These micro-financing projects help people to get on their feet and provide a meaningful income for their families that might not otherwise be possible. Some of the enterprises that UCF has helped to finance include a poultry farm, a brick making yard, a woodworking shop, and handbag design.
